Isabelle and Laura Take the UK: Kilsyth
Last Wednesday night we stayed in Kilsyth, a small town where Isabelle’s great grandmother was from.
We stayed at the Coachman Hotel, pictured above. It was nice to get away from the smelly, dirty cities we usually stay in and see some greenery. Really there is very little green in Florence and there were nice parks with grass and trees here. The air was noticeably fresher.

Isabelle and Laura Take the UK: the 3-hour Tour of...
For Easter weekend Isabelle and I headed to the UK. We took a couple extra days off school and departed Wednesday morning for Glasgow. We weren’t too sure about Glasgow because many people didn’t have such great things to say about it. (“going to Glasgow is like going to…Detroit”) but we were pleasantly surprised. The city was nice, clean and seemed to have a lot...

Cinque Terre
On Saturday we went to Cinque Terre, one of the most recommended places to visit in Italy. It only took about 2 and a half hours by train and about 20 euro roundtrip. Obviously it was super, super pretty, just like all the pictures. And it was so relaxing. Everyone was just kinda strolling around or lounging about. We hiked one trail (the only open one) between Riomaggiore and Manarola. This...

2 important pieces of advice if you are studying...
1. Get a capital one card: I believe it is the only card that doesn’t have international withdrawal fees. Before coming here I ignorantly thought “Oh it won’t be that much blahblah.” It costs me a little over 6 dollars to take out 140 euro (194 USD). IT ADDS UP.
2. Take classes pass/fail: Why did this option not cross my mind? Why did no one bring it up? 3/4 of the...

Survey about Florence, Italy →
If you live/study or have lived/studied in Florence I would greatly appreciate it if you filled out this questionnaire. It should only take 5 minutes. Thanks!

Mia Madre Visita
Last week mia madre came to visit! We fit a lot into a week.
We had a great view of the Arno from the hotel room.
We hiked up to Piazza Michelangelo.
We made it to Siena and had lunch in Il Campo.
We traveled to Rome and saw the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum and the Forum.
And we ate lots of tasty food along the way.

Venice
Thursday and Friday we went to Venice. I really liked it there. It was super pretty, and definitely lived up to the expectations. And the no cars/vespas made it so peaceful and clean.
We stayed at this place:
Turns out it was a printing house in the past! (as well as a monastery, orphanage, shoe factory and some other stuff). I enjoyed looking at some of the things they had on display.

Day Trip in Greece Numero Due
We were hesitant to take another day trip with our taxi driver friend Michael (lots of $$$) but we were so glad we did. First he took us somewhere on top of a mountain with some old building that we didn’t end up seeing because you have to pay 3 euro BUT the most important thing was the peacocks! We step out of the car and have mini freak outs because there are a buncha peacocks just...
